This is the second book in the Darkhaven Saga.
If you have not read the first book, Dark Secret, stop where you are. Do not proceed. Turn around quickly. You must first read book one before learning about book two.
Synopsis
Ava is adjusting to her new life as a vampire. Things build up quickly in this book. She has strong feelings for her sire, Jasik. She learns that her magic didn’t leave her when she transitioned to a vampire. Another witch has come to help the nest. Ava must deal with her feelings toward her old coven that are not reciprocated. It seems that Ava can’t win for losing in this book. To top it off, it ends in a cliff hanger that makes you want to scream.
My Opinion
Plot line was on point. (See what I did there? Plot your points, har-har-har! Sorry, math teacher humor.) I think that even though there was a lot going on, it was not too much. The story flowed well.
Personally, I’m ready for Ava and Jasik to start something. There was a scene that was so well written that you forgot what was going on around them, much like the characters did. (Wait until you read that scene! You’ll be telling Ms. Rose that she can’t stop things like she did.) However, nothing serious did happen between the two. The suspense is killing me here.
I liked the introduction of the witch, Jeremiah. He added a nice touch to the story. It helped to show Ava that she wasn’t crazy and that witches and vampires can get along. He even helped Ava with learning to control/harness this power.
I really would have liked to have seen part of the story through Jasik’s POV. The whole thing through Ava’s was fine but to me, I felt like I was reading a monologue as some early points. Going through Jasik would have broken the story up some.
Who would I recommend this to?
Absolutely anyone into the following genres: young adult, paranormal, vampires, witches, romance (not much action)
This saga has exceeded my expectations so far. We are only two books in and I have high expectations for Waterhouse, so that’s saying something. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is a great series.
